The game W-Coin, a tap-to-earn game on Telegram, has decided to launch its upcoming token on The Open Network (TON) following a player vote. Joining games like Hamster Kombat and Notcoin, W-Coin opted for TON as its blockchain platform.
Players of W-Coin were given the opportunity to vote for the blockchain of their choice for minting the game’s token. The options included Solana, Ethereum, and TON, with TON emerging as the clear winner. A total of over 8.8 million players participated in the poll, with 68% choosing TON, while Solana secured 24% and Ethereum came last with only 8% of the votes.
Despite Solana and Ethereum being renowned for their established networks and higher market value, TON has been gaining popularity within the Telegram community. Initially developed by Telegram and then handed over to a group of developers due to regulatory issues in 2020, TON is now actively maintained and developed by the community. Telegram has also integrated TON into its platform, offering cryptocurrency rewards tied to TON for channel owners and introducing an in-app currency that operates on the network.
The renewed interest in TON coincides with the growing trend of Telegram mini-apps revolving around cryptocurrency, particularly games like Notcoin and the upcoming launch of Hamster Kombat. Notcoin’s token, NOT, held the record for the largest gaming token launch this year, reaching a peak market cap of almost $3 billion, although its value has since decreased.
Hamster Kombat, a popular game on Telegram, has already attracted over 300 million players. Its native token, HMSTR, is set to launch officially on TON on September 26. Other notable games planning to release tokens on TON include Rocky Rabbit and X Empire.
While the official launch date for the WCOIN token by W-Coin is yet to be disclosed, the game has gathered a substantial player base of nearly 20 million players according to in-game data. Moreover, W-Coin has introduced a new game mode called W-AI, allowing players to invest in enhancing a virtual trading bot that can generate passive income for them.
