Bitcoin

A previous Bitcoin developer has denied claims that he is Satoshi Nakamoto, the elusive creator of Bitcoin, following an HBO documentary that suggested he might be the one behind the cryptocurrency.

Peter Todd stated that the documentary wrongfully names him as Satoshi, emphasizing that it’s unnecessary to discover the Bitcoin founder’s identity since Bitcoin has flourished despite not knowing who started it.

‘Misleading Claims’

Todd criticized the filmmaker of the documentary for branding him as Satoshi, labeling it a false claim.

He expressed frustration that the film cast him in a negative light even though he has consistently refuted claims of being the Bitcoin founder.

According to Todd, the documentary’s creator exploited the Satoshi controversy for marketing purposes, looking for “a way to get attention for his film.”

He condemned the director for amplifying false evidence and fostering conspiracy theories about the Bitcoin founder. Todd articulated that he could not possibly be Satoshi due to his commitments at school and work during Bitcoin’s early days.

The Documentary about Bitcoin

The film titled “Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery” premiered on HBO on October 8, asserting to reveal the true identity of Satoshi, who has remained hidden for years.

This documentary is the culmination of a three-year investigation led by filmmaker Cullen Hoback, who claimed to have uncovered Satoshi’s identity.

The documentary allegedly provided evidence linking Todd to being the creator of the cryptocurrency, a claim he continues to reject, asserting that he was inaccurately portrayed.

Todd Enters Hiding

Following the documentary’s release, Todd opted to go into hiding due to concerns for his safety.

In a recent interview, he mentioned receiving numerous emails from individuals asking for financial help, including one person who sent 25 messages seeking assistance with loan repayment.

Todd now appreciates why the true Satoshi might prefer anonymity, given the significant harassment directed at the Bitcoin creator.
