Bitcoin (BTC) recently surpassed the $100,000 mark, driven by numerous encouraging events this year. Following this rise, Standard Chartered forecasts that BTC’s price could reach $200,000 by the end of 2025.

Standard Chartered Predicts Bitcoin Price Could Reach $200,000 By 2025

The leading cryptocurrency, with a market capitalization exceeding $2 trillion, has entered into the six-figure price range. Following Donald Trump’s presidential election win, Bitcoin has experienced a remarkable 48% increase since November 5.

In a recent note, analyst Geoff Kendrick from Standard Chartered stated that the $200,000 target for BTC by the end of 2025 is within reach. He added:

We would be even more optimistic if there were increased adoption of BTC by U.S. retirement funds, sovereign wealth funds globally, or a potential U.S. strategic reserve fund. We anticipate that institutional investments will sustain or exceed the level seen in 2024. MicroStrategy is ahead of its $42 billion three-year strategy, meaning its purchases in 2025 should match or exceed those made in 2024.

Similarly, ARK Invest CEO Cathie Wood remains optimistic, stating that despite BTC reaching $100,000, the cryptocurrency is still in its early stages. In a statement on X, she expressed her eagerness about pro-crypto Paul Atkins potentially leading the SEC.

Wood referenced comments from U.S. Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell, who likened Bitcoin to a digital version of gold. She noted:

With gold priced around $2,700 and having a market cap of about $15 trillion, Bitcoin’s $2 trillion market cap indicates it’s still in its early stages. ARK Invest believes that Bitcoin represents a broader vision than gold.

The following chart from CoinMarketCap highlights the leading assets globally based on market capitalization. While gold remains at the top with nearly $18 trillion, BTC continues to close the gap, having already outpaced silver in market value.

Potential for Further Bitcoin Growth

Despite Bitcoin’s strong price performance this year, some investors may feel they’ve missed their chance. However, recent data suggests the opposite.

Reports indicate that retail investors haven’t fully engaged in the current cryptocurrency bull market, which is primarily driven by institutional buyers. The crossing over of the $100,000 threshold may prompt retail investors to start buying Bitcoin, contributing to the ongoing market momentum.
