In a nod to the groundbreaking Runestone project, an airdrop of 30,272 Dogecoin NFTs took place this week, echoing Runestone’s ethos of “free and fair” distribution observed back in March.

Following the success of the Bitcoin Ordinals collection just a month prior, Runestone initiated an airdrop to eligible wallets, inspiring a Dogecoin counterpart project to follow suit in celebration of this significant milestone.

Since the initial Doge Runestone airdrop, the collection of 30,272 Dogecoin NFTs has entered the secondary market with a remarkable trading volume of 80,142 DOGE, equivalent to nearly $15,000. Presently, the floor price for a Doge Runestone stands at 170 DOGE, approximately $32 on the Ordinals Wallet Dogecoin marketplace.

According to Robo AI, the entity behind the Doge Runestone drop, they are in the process of developing a DRC-420 protocol on Doginals to facilitate more sophisticated types of Dogecoin-based media. A project representative emphasized that this initiative marks the “first of its kind collection” on Dogecoin’s blockchain.

Emerging from the Ordinals inscription trend, Doge Runestone draws inspiration from the Runestone collection comprising 112,383 collectibles distributed through an airdrop to a select group of wallets.

The DRC-20 protocol, launched in May 2023, enables the creation of fungible tokens on the Dogecoin blockchain, fueling the proliferation of over 150 Dogecoin-themed NFT projects, as per data from Doginal Explorer.

Building on previous experiments on the Bitcoin blockchain, a pseudonymous Dogecoin enthusiast recently embedded a playable version of the classic video game Doom into the Dogecoin blockchain through the Doginals protocol. Additionally, Ordinal Inscriptions have extended their reach into the Ethereum ecosystem with ETHscriptions.

Pseudonymous NFT historian Leonidas, one of the co-creators of the Runestone project on Bitcoin, expressed enthusiasm for airdrops like this that align with Runestone’s principles.

“Runestone introduced a new template for how to distribute a token that we are calling the free and fair model,” Leonidas stated. “When I see that other projects are copying the free and fair model, I love it. The more airdrops like Runestone, the better.”
