Exploring Telegram’s Innovative Crypto Functionality: A Game Changer for Users

Telegram New Crypto Feature

At the start of 2025, Telegram has rolled out a major update that enhances its connection with the cryptocurrency world. According to TechCrunch, the messaging platform now supports NFT gifting and has introduced third-party account verification.

New Crypto Features from Telegram

Previously, Telegram focused on verifying public figures and organizations to confirm their identities on the platform. The latest enhancement expands this feature, allowing third-party organizations—like educational institutions and food safety authorities—to authenticate user accounts. This development is designed to increase trust and help combat misinformation.

Telegram states, “This decentralized verification platform will help prevent scams and diminish misinformation with a proactive approach that establishes new safety standards for social media.” Verified accounts will now display a unique logo next to their names instead of the usual blue checkmark, making them easier to identify.

Those seeking verification must go through a detailed application process. “Individuals or organizations interested in authentication need to undergo verification and complete a formal application to be eligible for the verified mark,” Telegram explained in a blog entry.

Utilizing the Bot API, Telegram allows organizations to easily manage verification statuses, enabling them to grant or revoke verification as needed. Verified profiles associated with these third-party entities will showcase the organization’s logo, boosting their reliability and assisting users in recognizing genuine accounts.

In a creative blend of cryptocurrency and social features, Telegram has introduced NFT gifting. Users can buy Telegram Stars through the app or via the Fragment site by connecting their TON crypto wallets. These Stars can be used for sending customized gifts that include unique backgrounds and icons, which users can later mint as NFTs.

Telegram highlighted that “Users will have the ability to trade these NFTs on various platforms,” showcasing the feature’s versatility. To support the blockchain transactions necessary for NFT creation, Telegram charges a fee for converting gifts into collectibles. This new feature not only improves user interaction by adding a unique trading component to gifting but also solidifies Telegram’s dedication to integrating cryptocurrency smoothly into its offerings.

In addition to the main features of verification and NFT gifting, the update includes new emoji reactions for service messages, such as welcoming new members to groups, and enhanced search filters designed for private chats, group messages, and channels.

Telegram has actively utilized cryptocurrency for various functionalities on its platform, such as enabling creator monetization and facilitating payments for games and mini-apps. The launch of third-party verification and NFT gifting further establishes Telegram’s presence in the dynamic crypto environment.

In the last 24 hours, Telegram’s cryptocurrency, Toncoin (TON), has risen by 5%, despite a 22% decrease over the past month. Currently, it holds a market capitalization of $14.3 billion with a 24-hour trading volume of $165 million.
