Following a plea from Hong Kong authorities, Interpol has included two cryptocurrency influencers from Hong Kong on its list of wanted individuals. These individuals are facing charges of theft, fraud, and money laundering due to their involvement with the now-defunct crypto exchange JPEX.
Crypto Influencers Wanted by Interpol
Reports have surfaced indicating that 30-year-old Wong Ching Kit, known online as ‘Coin Young Master’, and his 26-year-old partner Mok Tsun Ting have been listed on Interpol’s Wanted register. The Red Notice was issued after a request from local authorities, making the duo two of the eight individuals on Hong Kong’s wanted list.
Wong is accused of fraud and theft in Hong Kong, while Mok faces charges of money laundering. Wong gained notoriety in 2018 for a stunt involving throwing almost $800 from a rooftop, resulting in his arrest for disorderly conduct.
Both influencers have faced fraud allegations since 2019, with Wong being arrested twice for fraudulent activities related to promoting a crypto mining device. Several individuals lost a significant amount of money due to Wong’s misleading claims regarding the machine.
Connections to JPEX Exchange
Wong and Mok made headlines last year for their association with JPEX, the now-collapsed cryptocurrency exchange. The Securities and Futures Commission in Hong Kong had warned investors about the platform’s false claims, with reports of investors being unable to access their funds.
The regulatory body cautioned influencers against promoting the exchange, leading Wong to remove all his promotional content related to JPEX. Mok was arrested for his involvement with the exchange but was later released on bail, along with another influencer, Joseph Lam.
The JPEX collapse, which is considered one of the largest fraud cases in Hong Kong, resulted in the loss of approximately $200 million from over 2,000 victims. To date, 73 individuals have been apprehended in connection with the fraudulent platform.
