Recent on-chain data indicates that the HODLing trend among Litecoin users has remained robust, even in light of the recent drop in LTC’s price.
Majority of Litecoin Supply Held by HODLers
A recent update from Litecoin’s official account on X highlights the current distribution of its asset supply among various investor groups, which have been categorized by their holding periods.
Three primary groups have been identified: Traders, Cruisers, and HODLers. Traders are those who acquired their coins within the last month, primarily consisting of new investors and short-term market participants, leading to a constantly shifting supply.
Those who maintain their holdings beyond one month are classified as Cruisers. This group symbolizes a more stable segment of the investor base, showing potential for long-term commitment.
Lastly, individuals who retain their coins without any transactions for over a year are categorized as HODLers, embodying the true essence of long-term investing.
The chart shared by the Litecoin account on X, sourced from the market analytics platform IntoTheBlock, illustrates the evolution of supply held by these three groups throughout the network’s timeline:
The graph indicates a recent increase in supply held by Litecoin Traders, suggesting that older cohorts of investors may have started to take action with their assets.
At the same time, Cruisers are experiencing relatively stable supply levels, which points to the possibility that HODLers have begun to liquidate some of their holdings.
Although these long-term investors typically show strong resolve, they’re not averse to taking profits during market upswings. Nonetheless, the decrease in their supply has not been substantial, and crucially, the recent price slump for Litecoin has not incited panic selling among them.
Currently, HODLers hold approximately 40.5 million LTC, accounting for nearly 54% of the total supply. A significant portion of this supply has been held for over a year, and the average holding period per token on the network is reported to be 2.4 years.
It’s important to recognize that while sales are immediately reflected in the supply statistics of older groups, increases do not appear as promptly. When Cruisers or HODLers see growth in their numbers, it typically indicates prior accumulations rather than current activity, as coins must age to be categorized accordingly. Conversely, when transactions occur, they instantly reset their age, making sales immediate.
LTC Current Price
As of the latest update, Litecoin is trading around $102, reflecting a 15% decline over the past week.
