Pixelverse, the team behind the well-known Telegram game PixelTap, has taken a significant step by launching a closed beta for its new browser-based role-playing game (RPG). This shift signifies the company’s ambition to reach a broader audience beyond the Telegram platform, as announced on Thursday.

The new RPG is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) set in a cyberpunk world, taking place 800 years in the future in a massive city known as “Neopolis City.” Players can navigate the city, undertake quests, and participate in an open-world economy, offering a more immersive experience compared to the simpler tap-based gameplay of PixelTap.

Although this new game is not directly associated with Telegram, it does incorporate The Open Network (TON) blockchain. This represents the first time that microtransactions with TON are utilized outside of Telegram, enabling players who are already familiar with cryptocurrency through PixelTap to seamlessly transition to the new web-based format.

The closed beta is currently accessible to early testers and dedicated fans, with a public launch anticipated in the last quarter of the year, increasing accessibility for more players.

Kirill Volgin, the CEO of Pixelverse, shared the company’s vision: “We are utilizing our extensive Telegram user base to grow organically beyond the platform. Many users were introduced to cryptocurrencies through our mini-games, and now we are excited to provide them with a more complex gaming experience outside of mobile.”

As part of this initiative, Pixelverse also launched its own cryptocurrency, the PIXFI token, in July. They conducted an airdrop for PixelTap users, and while PIXFI initially debuted on the Ethereum blockchain, plans are underway to introduce it on the TON blockchain too. This will coincide with the introduction of Pixelchain, a dedicated layer-2 solution designed to enhance support for the game’s expanding blockchain framework.

Although PIXFI has not yet launched on TON, Pixelverse has already issued numerous NFT collectibles through PixelTap, laying a substantial foundation for future growth in blockchain gaming.

In conclusion, the transition of Pixelverse from a simple tap game on Telegram to a comprehensive web-based cyberpunk RPG demonstrates its goal of creating a rich, blockchain-enabled gaming environment. With a large player base and the addition of TON blockchain features, Pixelverse is set to make a notable mark in the web-based RPG market.
