Sony Group Launches Soneium: Ethereum Layer-2 Blockchain Solution

Ethereum Layer-2 Sony Soneium

Sony Group has partnered with Startale to introduce Soneium, a public Ethereum layer-2 blockchain. This move marks Sony’s strategic expansion into the blockchain industry, utilizing its vast distribution networks in various sectors like entertainment, gaming, finance, and electronics. Soneium aims to integrate Web3 technologies into everyday consumer applications to enhance user experiences with the benefits of blockchain technology.

Sony’s Focus on Bringing Ethereum to the Mainstream

Soneium serves as an Ethereum layer-2 solution that enhances the existing Ethereum infrastructure. It leverages the Op Stack from the Optimism Foundation to boost scalability and efficiency while maintaining Ethereum’s security features. This addresses issues such as slow processing speeds and high transaction costs commonly associated with Ethereum’s layer-1 solutions.

Jun Watanabe, Chairman of Sony Block Solutions Labs, emphasized the significance of this blockchain solution in Sony’s strategic goals of creativity and technology: “We believe that developing a comprehensive blockchain-based Web3 solution is crucial for Sony Group’s varied businesses in invoking emotion through creativity and technology.”
