Dogecoin announced with heartfelt sorrow the peaceful passing of Kabosu, the cherished dog who became the emblem of the renowned cryptocurrency. Kabosu departed on May 24th at 7:50 am, enveloped in love and tranquility.
The distinguished Shiba Inu, Kabosu, gained fame for her captivating and affectionate expression captured in a photograph by her owner. This image later became synonymous with Dogecoin, representing the lighthearted essence of the digital currency crafted as a jest.
The official blog post by Dogecoin recounted the serene moments preceding Kabosu’s departure:
“Last night as usual, [Kabosu] ate rice and drank plenty of water too. From the window, the soft light shone in, outside the window the birds sang on a beautiful morning, while I stroked her like she was sleeping, she passed away quietly.”
Kabosu’s proprietor expressed profound gratitude to all those who adored Kabosu over the years, acknowledging the deep connection they shared: “For a long time, Kabosu was loved by all of you, and for that, I am really thankful. Kabosu was the happiest dog in the world, and I was the happiest owner. She is still now, smiling and wagging her tail, staying close to me.”
The beloved Kabosu, rescued from a puppy mill by Japanese teacher Atsuko Sato in 2008, brought joy to countless individuals with her serene and slightly bemused demeanor. Her image sparked meme circulation, culminating in the inception of Dogecoin in 2013. The founders opted to use Kabosu’s likeness as the currency’s logo to embody its playful and welcoming nature.
Throughout the years, Dogecoin has flourished, embodying both the whimsical spirit and the unexpected triumph of the digital currency, largely owing to Kabosu’s enduring image.
The Dogecoin community shared its condolences, and Sato announced a farewell gathering to honor Kabo-chan: “We will be holding a farewell party for Kabo-chan on Sunday, May 26th. It will be held at Flower Kaori in Kotsu no Mori, Narita City, from 1pm to 4pm.”
The current trading price of DOGE stands at $0.1585.
