US-based venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) is set to open its first international office later this year, aligning with a growing trend of domestic companies exploring international expansion opportunities. The move comes as regulatory actions against crypto firms in the US have risen over the past few months. A16z’s announcement to establish a presence in the UK appears to be a strategic response to a shifting business landscape.
A16z’s crypto founder and managing partner, Chris Dixon, says that one of the main motives behind this expansion is the pursuit of a more predictable business environment. The decision to choose the UK as their first international site was reached following successful discussions with stakeholders such as the UK Prime Minister and the Financial Conduct Authority.

The program is set to start in the spring of 2024 and has already received over 8,000 applications from the most recent iteration. A16z remains heavily invested in the US and will continue to work closely with policymakers and regulators to advocate for clearer regulations that can benefit crypto startups.
